The Israel Defense Forces announced on Tuesday evening that a soldier was killed a day earlier during combat operations in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to the IDF, Sgt. 1st Class (res.) Salm Alkreshat, 42, was killed in the Beit Hanoun area. Alkreshat was an army tracker and had entered Gaza with the Netzah Yehuda Battalion.

Alkreshat, a Bedouin Israeli, is survived by 12 kids, including his youngest daughter, who was born roughly two weeks ago. His friends say he was extremely proud to serve in the Israel Defense Forces and to be an Israeli citizen.

"In our home, the flag of Israel doesn't come down. This is our country," said Salman, a relative of Alkreshat.

Following his mandatory service in the IDF, Alkreshat worked as a security guard. He was called to reserve duty after Hamas' October 7 attack on southern Israel.

"This is our country, we'll continue to serve it," Salman said, adding "We'll continue serving the country even if one, or ten of us, die."

Alkreshat is the 606th Israeli soldier killed since October 7, according to data provided by the IDF. 261 of the fallen soldiers were killed since Israel began its ground offensive in Gaza on October 27.
