The Israel Defense Forces announced Tuesday morning that the air force killed two key operatives of Hezbollah's air defense system and elite Radwan Force.

Shortly after the announcement, sirens sounded across the Western Galilee region of northern Israel over a suspected hostile aircraft infiltration. The IDF said its air defense system intercepted three aerial objects over the sea near the coastal city of Nahariya.

The killing of the Hezbollah air defense operatives was carried out after the IDF confirmed Monday night that an Israeli drone had been intercepted by a surface-to-air missile in Lebanon.

According to a Hezbollah statement, the interception was carried out in the southern Lebanese village of Aaichiyeh, and the drone was en route to carrying out an offensive mission.

The IDF said that the air defense system operative killed Tuesday morning was Hussein Ali Azkul, who was involved in the planning and execution of a series of terrorist activities, and that his killing "represents significant damage to the system and organization's capabilities in the area."

According to Lebanese reports, Azkul was killed when his car was struck near the village of Aaldoun, situated between the cities of Tyre and Sidon.

The other killing the IDF took responsibility for was of an operative of Hezbollah's elite Radwan Force. The assassination was reportedly carried out overnight into Tuesday in the area of the southern Lebanese village of Arzoun.

The Israeli army said that the operative, Mohammad Khalil Atiyeh, was "involved in the preparation and execution of terrorist plans on Israeli soil."

Another aircraft that entered Israeli territory from Lebanon was intercepted Monday night. Sirens sounded on the eve of Passover after a barrage of 35 rockets was fired at Safed, the first targeting of the northern Israeli city in around two weeks.

Sirens were also activated in the Zikim and Sderot areas of southern Israel on Tuesday morning. The Sderot municipality said that five rockets were fired at the city, and that one of them hit a construction site.

As the result of one of the rocket interceptions, a warehouse in Sderot caught fire. No casualties were reported.
