The legend
FROM SONORA TO CONGRESS ST.
In 1998 Rosa & Hector Mendoza parked a turquoise truck in Tucson with a comal, a boombox and two shaking chihuahuas — Frida & Diego. People came for $1 tacos, stayed for the chaos. Today Dos Chihuahuas is a 180-seat cantina with the same soul: everything from scratch, nothing fancy, all love.
We nixtamalize heirloom corn daily, smoke meats over mesquite, and infuse our own mezcals with prickly pear, jalapeño and chocolate. Frida II & Diego II (grand-pups of the originals) still greet guests at the door — bow ties on Fridays.

Are dogs allowed? 🐕
Yes! Patio is 100% dog-friendly. Free pup tacos (chicken + rice), water bowls, and treats at the bar. Inside, only our resident chihuahuas Frida II & Diego II.
Do you have vegan / gluten-free options?
Absolutely. 1/3 of menu is veg/vegan: cauliflower al pastor, mushroom birria, corn everything (GF). Nopales salad is a sleeper hit.
Do I need a reservation?
Walk-ins welcome, but Fri/Sat after 6pm gets wild. Book for 6+ or if you want the patio. Taco Tuesday — first come, first served.
What is mezcal vs tequila?
Both agave spirits. Tequila = blue agave only. Mezcal = 30+ agaves, smokier, wilder. Start with our $18 flight: espadin, tobalá, pechuga. Don Chuy will guide you.
