The Israel Police announced the death of Chief Inspector Yetav Lev Halevy, a commander in the Police Special Anti-Terror Unit, who was wounded on Saturday during a raid near the West Bank city of Tulkarm.

Halevi was 28-years old from the Israeli settlement Har Gila, near Jerusalem. He was a 2013 alumni of the Masorti high school in Jerusalem.

He was the son of Vered and retired Maj. Gen. Yoram Halevi who was previously the elite counter-terrorism unit Yamam chief, as well as other top police roles such as the head of Israeli crime-fighting organization Lahav 433, the Border Control Police and the Southern Command. In his last role, he was the Jerusalem District Police chief, and was nominated to be the next Police Commissioner. A few weeks ago, he was appointed as the head of the National Road Safety Authority.

IDF, Shin Bet and Yamam forces participated in the operation that took 12 hours long and killed 5 Palestinians, during which Yatev was wounded.

The forces operated in front of a house in which Hamas terrorists were hiding. A drone struck the building, that also sustained rocket fire and was bulldozed. One terrorist turned himself in.

According to the army, the terrorists in the house were responsible for a number of terror attacks. One of the attacks took place in November in the northern part of the West Bank, which killed a reserves soldier Elhanan Ariel Klein. Another attack took place near the West Bank settlement Shavei Shomron, during which three were wounded, including a soldier who was severely wounded.
