A 35-year-old from northern Israel was killed overnight into Friday by an anti-tank missile fired by Hezbollah.
The victim was later identified as Sharif Suad, from the Arab village of Ras al-Ein. Suad, a truck driver, was taking part in construction activity in the area when his vehicle was struck by one of the missiles fired from Lebanon. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the incident.
Israel Defense Forces troops removed Suad's body from the scene while taking fire from Hezbollah, and the operation to retrieve the body took several hours.
Referring to the incident in which Suad was killed, Hezbollah said that its fighters ambushed a convoy shortly before midnight Thursday, destroying two vehicles.
The IDF said it had carried out retaliatory strikes against Hezbollah targets in Shebaa and Ein Notera, two villages in southern Lebanon. Among the targets were a rocket launcher and a storage facility for missiles.
Suad worked as a truck for the past two years, according to his cousin Mohammed, who added that Suad is survived by his wife and two young children.
Hamovil, the company Suad worked for, released a statement saying "he was a valued truck driver and an excellent employee. We send our condolences at this dismal hour."
