The Israel Police are due to announce that Superintendent Meir Suissa, who is being investigated for offenses that include throwing a stun grenade at protesters, is being promoted to South Tel Aviv station chief, sources said Wednesday.

They said the appointment had been approved by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir upon the recommendation of Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai. Suissa has received the relevant approvals and is expected to start a command and headquarters course shortly, after which he will be promoted to chief superintendent and appointed station chief.

At least two cases involving Suissa are currently being conducted by the police's internal affairs division in connection with police violence. The first alleges that he threw a stun grenade at demonstrators during a demonstration against the judicial overhaul in Tel Aviv last year.

Haaretz has learned that police officials consulted with internal affairs before deciding on the promotion, and were told a decision on the suspicions against Suissa was due to be issued shortly.
